Blake & Uhlig has extensive experience in the legal representation of multi-employer employee benefit funds, including defined benefit and defined contribution pension funds, health and welfare funds, apprenticeship funds, and vacation funds.

Our employee benefits practice includes representation of over 55 funds with assets ranging up to $7 billion.

We provide comprehensive legal services to our fund clients including: preparing and amending plan documents; ensuring continued tax qualification with the IRS; preparing and reviewing contracts; preparing summary plan descriptions and summaries of material modifications; advising clients on matters relating to ERISA, USERRA, FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA, and PPACA; reviewing Qualified Domestic Relations Orders; representing clients in IRS and DOL audits; preparing and submitting requests for prohibited transaction exemptions; providing advice on fiduciary responsibility; and asserting and enforcing the fund’s rights to subrogation and reimbursement.

The firm routinely handles benefits litigation for its fund clients, with particular expertise in protecting the funds against fraudulent claims for benefits, collection matters involving delinquent employers, alter ego litigation and employers who have been assessed withdrawal liability.
